Kim Yen Vu was born in Da Nang, Vietnam. She spent most of her early childhood in Saigon and attended Le Quy Don Elementary school. She immigrated to the United States in 1975 when she was seven years old.
Kim Yen is currently a public school principal at Stafford Primary School with the Stafford Municipal School District. She has been in public education for 23 years serving students in many different capacities. She started out her career in education as a bilingual instructional assistant serving Migrant students in Gulfport, Mississippi. Kim Yen earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education and Psychology with Highest Honors from the University of Southern Mississippi and was honored with the Student Teacher of the Year Award in 1990. After moving to Texas and while continuing her career in education as a teacher, Kim Yen obtained a Master Degree in 1995 in Education Counseling and served as a middle school counselor for nine years. In 2003, she received her 2nd Masters Degree in Education Administration and Supervision and later became an assistant principal at Stafford Middle School and Stafford Intermediate School. While at Stafford, she also served as curriculum assistant, District Bilingual/ESL coordinator, and as interim principal. Kim Yen is very active in her community and her church. Kim was recently recognized as an Outstanding Asian Pacific American Educator. We was also nominated and accepted as a fellows to the Class of XXVIII of the American Leadership Forum. She hosts a monthly educational forum on a local radio talk show to inform and educate the community on educational topics and issues. Kim Yen is passionate about education, and her joy is touching the lives of students, our future leaders.
Kim Yen has been married to Tony Nguyen for 25 years, and they have three beautiful children—Julian, Jonathan, and Joanna. Julian is a junior at Texas A & M, Jonathan is a freshman at the University of Houston, and Joanna is in the 5th grade at Stafford Intermediate. Kim Yen and her family currently reside in Sugar Land, Texas.

Welcome to our school! I am honored to serve as principal of Stafford Primary School. I’ve started my teaching career in the primary grades teaching Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st grade, and after many years of service at various grade levels from elementary to many years at the middle school level, I feel that I have come home. “Setting high standards for our students to cultivate excellence in the classroom and beyond…” is my personal motto and the motto of SMSD.
