Dear parents, community members,

At the January Board meeting, a foreign language academy program proposal was presented to the school board and the public for possible implementation at Stafford Primary School for the 2010-2011 school year. The proposal is to offer to our SMSD students at the primary level the opportunity to be enrolled in a dual language program where students will be able to learn a second language. Based on research, language acquisition starts at an early age, and the best time to teach language(s) is at the early ages. If our SMSD students are bilingual or multilingual, they will be at an advantage to compete in today’s global market.

The Foreign Language Academy proposed, offering languages (Vietnamese and Chinese currently being considered and possibly others to follow) at the elementary level, is an innovative program and may be the only one of its kind in the state of Texas. This is an initiative that will require a lot of planning and communicating with important stakeholders such as parents and community members.

If you are interested in enrolling your child in the program for the 2010-2011 school year, we invite you to come to an information meeting to take place this Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Stafford Primary School Cafeteria. Community members interested in learning about the program are welcomed to attend the meeting as well.

STAFFORD MUNICIPAL SCHOOL DISTRICT ACCEPTS STUDENTS LIVING OUTSIDE THE DISTRICT BOUNDARIES TO ENROLL AT STAFFORD SCHOOLS ON A LIMITED OPEN ENROLLMENT. IF YOU ARE LIVING OUTSIDE THE DISTRICT BOUNDARIES AND ARE INTERESTED IN THIS PROGRAM, PLEASE COME TO THE MEETING.

For a third year in a row, Stafford Primary School is RECOGNIZED in the Texas Education Agency Accountability Rating System. Stafford Primary School also meets AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress), a federal rating.

Ms. Crow receives an award for her former PreK students meeting criteria in Kindergarten as school ready!

Mrs. Vu, Principal, was honored in November by the Chinese Community Center at their Gala as outstanding Asian Pacific American Educator. Mr. HD Chambers, Superintendent of school was in attendance to present her with the award.

On February 12, 2010, Stafford Primary School 1st grade teacher, Ms. Tawana Parker, was honored as the 3rd runner up for the Outstanding Elementary Teacher of the Year Award at Houston Area Alliance of Black Educators (HAABSE) Awards ceremony honoring 92 other teachers at the Westin Galeria grand ballroom!
